A student clings to a cigarette outside a Nisa Local, waiting for an Uber to Eagle Inn, their friends are already there. None of them have ventured further than Deansgate, but they’ve heard it’s a good gig. The Uber driver poseses a welcome sense of urgency, if not a sense of direction. He engages the student in conversation, the student politely feigns an interest in the traffic. A few redlights are ignored down Trinity Way as the student double checks they have their ID. Finally, they arrive. The student is greeted by their friends and they walk toward the venue. Outside two men sit at a table, smoking. One looks like an extra from Life On Mars, the other looks like a Victorian chimney sweep. The friends head straight to the bar. The two men outside discard their cigarettes and assume their postions at the door, they are the promoters. As for the Uber driver, another passenger awaits.
